Official Seers Catalog FAQ

An Introduction

Welcome dear Seers to the living digital tome of frequently asked questions. Witness and absorb the answers to all the questions you were about to ask. For your convenience, this arcane knowledge has been ordered by artifact.

=5 Points

  • What happens when a Seer holds the =5 Points artifact but has also previously won the -2 Penalty artifact?

When scoring the =5 points Artifact, you will always receive exactly 5 points, if you are in the Bonus. This ignores all other cards in your hand and any Artifact effects, such as the -2 Penalty.

Reset

  • The Reset artifact does say that it doesn't affect artifact cards; where is this line drawn? Does it only affect cards played into the meld? Which cards would and wouldn't be reset? For example, would the -2 penalty card still be in play, or would it be discarded by the reset?

The rules intended meaning was to protect the activation of Penalty, Lead Next, All Must Play, Unique Meld, & Retrieve. It seemed unjust/wasteful to play those cards only to discard their effects with the Reset. Artifact Cards played this trick before the Reset card are still active, but all previously played melds now have a value of zero; however, if every Seer passes after the Reset was played by itself, then the highest meld played before Reset would win the trick. If the Reset artifact were played with a meld and all other players passed, then the Seer who played the Reset card would have the highest meld and would then win the trick.

Wild

  • If a Seer has two wilds in hand (the second being acquired via the Retrieve artifact), can they play a set that is 2 cards larger than the number of suits in the game? (e.g., play 4,4,4,4,wild,wild as a 6-of-a-kind in a 4-player game.)

Yes. Though the ultimate limit would be 13-of-a-kind. 5 wilds + All 5 suited 5 cards + Extra Card + 5 Point Bonus + +1/-1 paired with a 4 or 6. This is implied with the example on page 8 of the rulebook (ie, the allowance of multiples over 4). However, this does NOT apply towards suited runs as wild cards MUST be valued 2 to 13; wilds cannot have a value of 1 or 14.
